24.Ethical issues in medicine, science and technology: Alternative energy sources.
Alternative energy refers to energy sources other than fossil fuels (such as coal, petroleum, and diesel) and includes all renewable and nuclear energy sources. ... Nuclear energy is produced by using elements like uranium and thorium, which cannot be replenished and have a finite amount in existence.. Today, we start using alternative sources of energy like solar power, wind power, geothermal, biomass, hydro power, waste energy and so on, because these renewable energy sources are not polluting the environment and are helping us to reduce the level of greenhouse gas emissions in the atmosphere and to reduce climate change effects. Of course, is not enough to generate clean energy from clean and renewable energy sources like the Sun, wind, water and biomass, we also need to reduce the level of CO2 in the atmosphere. Green plants consume CO2, so they can be used as a green army that can help us reduce the level of CO2 in the atmosphere. More trees mean less CO2 in the atmosphere, so instead of cutting the forests to be used in the industry, we need to plant the trees back in their place, and even to populate new areas with young trees and regenerate the forests. There are more and more companies in the world that are getting revenues from renewable energy. There are also a few controversies here because some consider hydropower and nuclear power as alternative energy sources (they are different than fossil fuels represented by coal, oil and gas), while others say that nuclear power produces nuclear waste that is harmful for the environment. 25.Social issues: Social matters. Social Occasions. Social habits. Community responsibilities. Role of woman in society. A social issue is a problem that influences many citizens within a society. It is a group of common problem in present-day society and one that many people strive to solve. It is often the consequence of factors extending beyond an individual's control. Social issues are the source of a conflicting opinion on the grounds of what is perceived as morally correct or incorrect personal life or interpersonal social life decisions. Social issues are distinguished from economic issues; however, some issues (such as immigration) have both social and economic aspects. There are also issues that do not fall into either category, such as warfare. There can be disagreements about what social issues are worth solving, or which should take precedence. Different individuals and different societies have different perceptions. In Rights of Man and Common Sense, Thomas Paine addresses the individual's duty to "allow the same rights to others as we allow ourselves." The failure to do so causes the creation of a social issue. There are a variety of methods people use to combat social issues. Some people vote for leaders in a democracy to advance their ideals. Outside the political process, people donate or share their time, money, energy, or other resources. This often takes the form of volunteering. Nonprofit organizations are often formed for the sole purpose of solving a social issue. Community organizing involves gathering people together for a common purpose. social occasion - a vaguely specified social event; "the party was quite an affair"; "an occasion arranged to honor the president"; "a seemingly endless round of social functions" social function, occasion, affair, function. social event - an event characteristic of persons forming groups. Our social habits are the day-to-day behaviors we rely on to give our social lives agility. Some people have healthy social habits built upon a solid foundation of social skills. Predictably, this yields a vibrant and rewarding social life. Others, on the other hand, struggle in their social lives because they lack these skills and habits that allow them to socialize with ease and comfort. Those with poor habits tend to be less active and more socially isolated. Loneliness can become a more frequent companion, often leading to feelings of depression or anxiety, which can accelerate a downward spiral. 1. Look people in the eyes. 2. Smile. 3. Ask questions. But don't kill another person with them like you're a detective. Rather, show a genuine interest in another person's life and experiences. 4. Don't talk too much. When someone tells a story, stop your urge to follow up with an example from your life. Instead, say, "Wow, that's cool!" 5. When you introduce someone, make him or her a superstar. "This is my friend Tom. I met him at my first workplace, and he saved my ass when I had my first project deadline! I cannot imagine what would have happened without him." 6. Try to remember names. I know most of the people emphasize they are terrible at remembering names. But it is a skill like any other and can be picked up quickly. Ask a new person to repeat the name if you haven't heard. Repeat loudly after them. Ask mutual friend later for the help in the case you forget. People like when you remember their names. It is worth some practice. 7. Make a silent break. It will make you more persuasive and confident. People like that. Don't be tempted to explain the same thing five times or to fill every break with talk. Short breaks are very powerful.
