While only children or children from small families may reap the benefits of having more attention from their parents when they are younger, they often feel overwhelmed with the responsibility of caring for those parents when they age. In a family with multiple siblings, there are simply more people to help care for parents as they grow older and share the responsibilities that come with aging parents.

Friends come and go, but family is forever, is a popular saying that many children who come from a small family know all too well. When you have siblings there's a sense of community already built into your family unit that is always there. While siblings may bicker when they're younger, they often grow closer as they get older, forging even greater bonds as they begin to extend their own family. Only children or those who have only one sibling often feel as though they are missing out on having that big, extended family that provides a sense of community as well as a greater support network.
There is no 'perfect' amount of children that a family should have, and how many kids people want to have is a personal decision, and often one that is out of some parent's control. Family is what you make of it and every family, regardless of the size, has its advantages and disadvantages.
