card-5 a) speak about traditional sport activities during holidays in different countries • In Norway, cross-country skiing isn’t just a sport, it’s a way of life. With frequent snowfall during the winter (and all year round in the north), people who live in less built-up towns and villages find skiing is their main mode of transport at some points. • Traditionally practised by men, Sumo is a sport known worldwide that originates in Japan. It involves two competitors trying to wrestle one another to the ground. Due to its popularity around the world, it’s a popular spectator sport for travellers, with people either watching competitions, or training sessions. • Caber Toss is a sport that is known around the world but not one that many people know a lot about. Played at The Highland Games, traditionally in Scotland but can be worldwide, anyone can enter a caber toss (with a kilt on of course!) Many people often think the winner would be the one who throws the caber the furthest, but in fact, it’s judged on landing position. b)are extreme sports dangerous. why • It can be argued that injury is a possibility when participating in any sport. But the heights, distances and speeds that come with extreme sports drastically increase the severity of injuries that can be incurred. Those who participate in these types of activities risk broken bones, head trauma and even death. According to the United States Parachuting Association, about 21 people die every year from skydiving. Although this equates to a relatively low chance of death, it is still higher than other traditional sports. • so Never engage in an activity you haven't prepared for. If you think you would like to try an extreme sport, get advice from friends and family members first. You should also learn from experts in the sport c)speak about the sports that are not common • Chess Boxing • The game of chess is one that requires patience, strategy and skill—but why not have two players whacking each other across the face, too? • That's what chess boxing does, as it takes the same skill set the usual game does, but adds in a physical element that leaves the players black and blue, as participants win by way of either the chess game or knocking their opponent out. • Plus, it makes anyone who was in the Chess Club in high school pretty damn cool. • Underwater Hockey • The name underwater hockey gives away the very nature of the sports hockey, which is played underwater. It was invented by the British navy in the 1950s as a tool to keep the divers fit but in the time, it evolved into a fast-paced game and spread to 20 countries. In the game, the stick is much shorter which is used to get the puck into the opponent's net. There are 3 forwards and 3 backs and each game has two 15-minute halves and a three-minute halftime. d) • Fencing • Fencing is a combat-related sport that is akin to sword fighting. It involves trying to find an opening in the defense of the opponent and penetrating it. The sword is named a saber and a foil helmet is worn during the sport. Naturally, the sport is played individually and is a measure of skill and agility rather than strength. • Figure Skating • Figure Skating involves skating on a surface of ice or akin to that of ice. It involves skating with figure skates and performing tricks and dancing to demonstrate one’s skill of balance on the ice. It is an individual sport, but a duo or trio can also perform together. This is a popular Olympic sport as well. what was Donald Thomas famous for • on the seventh high jump of his life, Donald Thomas cleared 2,22m. the next year, after only eighth months of training, Thomas won the world championship • Thomas won the gold medal in the high jump at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, India. In the final he was the only competitor to clear the height of 2.32, which he managed at the first attempt. what kind of ability should baseball players have • Professional baseball players have, as a group, remarkable eyesight. a typical baseball professional can see at seven metres what the rest of us can see at four metres. this means that, however much they trained, only a tiny proportion of the population would be able to do what a professional baseball players can do naturally: see a ball that is traveling towards them at 150 km an hour Zoho Show Загрузите Zoho Show из Play Store https://zoho.to/cy7 для создания привлекательных презентаций card -5.pdf (Этот файл PDF сгенерирован в Zoho Show) Download 126.68 Kb.
