09/12/2016 Dear Parent/ Guardian,
As the school year begins, our 8 th grade students in the learning support program are beginning a new period in their lives. It is the beginning of the “Transition Process,” and they begin preparing for the transition from middle/junior high school to high school and beyond. For the next 5+ weeks, I will be visiting your child’s school, conducting a program designed to introduce the “Transition Process.” In a series of 7 class periods (5 fall and 2 spring), he/she will begin to learn about himself/herself; and begin establishing relevance for his/her education through career exploration, learning about disabilities and accommodations, learning self-advocacy skills, discovering the importance of the IEP and his/her central role in the process. I hope this will be a positive experience for your child, providing tools for success and creating a supportive bridge from middle/junior high school to high school and beyond.
