Abstract. The adequacy of the model of the consumption process of the target product is determined 
by the statistical significance of the difference between the residual errors of the forecast of the 
process of consumption of the target product from the process of “white noise”, all the necessary 
calculations are performed on electronic computers, and the models are adapted to the current 
conditions of the consumption process of the target product. At the same time, the use of models for 
problems of simulation in research works seems to be rather complicated and cumbersome. The 
article shows that at long intervals of simulation modeling of engineering networks, without the 
possibility of correcting the parameters of the model, depending on the actual course of the 
consumption process of the target product, such models can lead to the accumulation of systematic 
errors and distortion of correlations between the processes of consumption of the target product in 
various network nodes. The article shows that at long intervals of simulation modeling of

large engineering networks, including dozens of nodes, models are more applicable, which can be 
represented as a composition of parametrically specified functions. The paper shows how the 
parameters of such models can be determined using limited statistical material on the process of 
consumption of the target product at objects of various types Below in the article are the ways of 
implementing the model algorithm and obtaining results that meet the requirements of simulation.
