In the Nethterlands, wilhelmina Drucker fought successfully for the vote ans equal rights for women through political and feminist organisation she founded in 1917-19 her goal of women's suffrage was reached.

Even for those women who identify themselves as feminists or with feminist issues, there is confusion over the debates that rage within feminism, over the different kinds of feminism and the relationship between women's struggles and struggles against other forms of oppression and exploitation.

This paper tries to make sense of these issues by examining in turn the five main categories of feminism which prevail today; namely “liberal feminism”, “radical feminism”, “marxist feminism”, “socialist feminism” and “feminism in the third world”.

Charles Fourier, a utopian socialist and French philosopher, is credited with having coined the word "féminisme" in 1837.[16] The words "féminisme" ("feminism") and "féministe" ("feminist") first appeared in France and the Netherlands in 1872,[17] Great Britain in the 1890s, and the United States in 1910.[18][19] The Oxford English Dictionary lists 1852 as the year of the first appearance of "feminist"[20] and 1895 for "feminism".

First-wave feminism promoted equal contract and property rights for women, opposing ownership of married women by their husbands. By the late 19th century, feminist activism was primarily focused on the right to vote. American first-wave feminism ended with passage of the 19th Amendment to the US Constitution in 1919, granting women voting rights.

Second-wave feminism of the 1960s-1980s focused on issues of equality and discrimination. The second-wave slogan, “The Personal is Political,” identified women’s cultural and political inequalities as inextricably linked and encouraged women to understand how their personal lives reflected sexist power structures. Betty Friedan was a key player in second-wave feminism. In 1963, her book The Feminine Mystique criticized the idea that women could find fulfillment only through childrearing and homemaking. According to Friedan’s New York Times obituary, her book “ignited the contemporary women’s movement in 1963 and as a result permanently transformed the social fabric of the United States and countries around the world” and “is widely regarded as one of the most influential nonfiction books of the 20th century.” Friedan hypothesizes that women are victims of false beliefs requiring them to find identity in their lives through husbands and children. This causes women to lose their own identities in that of their family.

Third-wave feminism began in the early 1990s, responding to perceived failures of the second wave and to the backlash against second-wave initiatives. This ideology seeks to challenge the definitions of femininity that grew out of the ideas of the second-wave, arguing that the second-wave over-emphasized experiences of upper middle-class white women. The third-wave sees women’s lives as intersectional, demonstrating how race, ethnicity, class, religion, gender, and nationality are all significant factors when discussing feminism. It examines issues related to women’s lives on an international basis

What was Virginia Woolf famous for? She was best known for her novels, especially Mrs. Dalloway (1925) and To the Lighthouse (1927). She also wrote pioneering essays on artistic theory, literary history, women's writing, and the politics of power. Born into a privileged English household in 1882, author Virginia Woolf was raised by free-thinking parents. She began writing as a young girl and published her first novel, The Voyage Out, in 1915. She wrote modernist classics including Mrs. Dalloway, To the Lighthouse and Orlando, as well as pioneering feminist works, A Room of One's Own and Three Guineas. In her personal life, she suffered bouts of deep depression. She committed suicide in 1941, at the age of 59

Fourth-wave feminism is a period of feminism that began around 2012 and is characterized by a focus on the empowerment of women, the use of internet tools, and intersectionality. The fourth-wave seeks greater gender equality by focusing on gendered norms and marginalization of women in society

think the ultimate goal is EQUALITY.

Woman should be treated equally as men are.

We should get the same pay for the SAME job.

We want to be treated as a person, not 70% of a person or less.

We want to stop getting sexually harassed and abused (men also can and do get sexually harassed and abused as well, feminists want that to stop too!).

We also want the feminine traits to stop being shamed (ie. men can’t do things seen as feminine or “weak” like cry, or show emotion toward a guy friend, wear makeup or paint their nails, etc.)

Women being seen, by society, as equals would hopefully solve those problems.

Another goal for feminism is to stand up for our people of color, LGBTQ+, and transgender friends.

And just for extra measure so some people don’t get confused, as there are a lot of toxic people out there who claim to be feminists but really aren’t.

Feminism is NOT thinking women are superior to men. Men and Women are Equal and should be treated as such.

Feminism is NOT only standing up and fighting for white women. If you don’t stand with your LGBTQ+, transgender, and people of color friends you are NOT a feminist.

There’s a lot of things that people claiming to be feminists do that gives feminism a bad name, but I don’t have time to name them all here.

Of course there is a lot that feminism is about, and I’ve only covered the tip of the iceberg here. But hopefully this gives you a tiny idea and makes you want to explore the topic further. :)

The main feature of feminism is EQUALITY. Feminism means wanting things to be equal for both men and women.

Of course, as does most everything, people take it too far. Feminism is not hating men. Feminism is not declaring women are superior to men. Often people are against feminism due to the extremists.

Feminism simply means wanting equality, no matter your gender.
