pregnancy tests [2]. Urine enters the open area of the line, is absorbed and flows into the 
reaction zone. There are antibodies against HGT - they stick to the hormone, if there is one 
in the liquid, and there are also proteins that replace dyes, the result of which will be seen 
later. 
In addition, urine and antibodies flow into the test area, the second line, which 
confirms or rejects pregnancy. Here, antibodies identical to HGT bind to the hormone, 
squeezing it between two antibodies. Before release, the color-changing protein cleaves the 
antibody and chemically reacts with the dye. As a result, the appearance (or absence) of a 
colored band with confirmation of pregnancy. Without HGT, the dye does not react [3]. A 
pregnancy test is performed by incubating serum with anti-human chorionic gonadotropin 
(anti-HGT). If HGT is present in the sample, it combines with anti-HGT antibodies and 
inactivates them. When these inactivated antibodies are exposed to the indicator, which is 
red or latex cells coated with HGT, the cells do not aggregate, resulting in a positive 
pregnancy test. If accumulation occurs, the test is considered negative [4]. 
Components 
A typical home pregnancy test includes the following components: 
Immunoassay strip. An immunoassay strip is formed by squeezing nonwoven fibers 
into a narrow strip and coating them with reactive antibodies. Antibodies combine with the 
pregnancy hormone in a series of steps, and as a result, the color changes. 
Absorbent pad 
The direct application type of test involves an absorbent pad that extends from the 
test chamber and is used to contact the urine stream. The pad absorbs the liquid and 
contacts it with the immunoassay strip. 
Plastic case 
The test strip and absorbent pad are housed in a two-piece housing that allows the 
device to be hand-held and protects the strip from environmental contaminants. A leak-proof, 
clear plastic window on the side of the housing prevents urine from accidentally splashing 
onto the test strip and allows you to see the test and control zone portions of the strip.
