RESEARCH - 2022 72 this word is derived from the last part of the Greek word "suf", that is, philosopher. But many believe that the word Sufi is derived from the Arabic word "word". The literal meaning of the word "word" is wool and cloth woven from wool. Because Sufis used to wear woolen cloaks or furs woven from sheepskin in many cases, they were called woolen clothes (Persian pashminaposh), i.e. Sufi. In our opinion, the following etymological meaning is closer to the truth, because the word Sufi is formed from the word "suf" in accordance with the rules of the Arabic language. The end of the 13th century - the beginning of the 14th century is a particularly productive period in the history of Sufism. By this time, Sufism had reached its peak both from a theoretical-scientific point of view and from the point of view of practical activity. The flowering of Sufism literature also coincides with this period. Especially such intellectual sheikhs as Najmuddin Kubra (1145-1221), Muhyiddin Ibn Arabi (1165-1240), Yahya Suhrawardi (1155-1191), Fariduddin Attar (d. 1220), Ahmad Yassavi (d. 1166), Jalaluddin Rumi (1207 –1273) great Sufi poets expanded the scope of Sufism, enriched it with philosophy and wisdom. If in the 9th-11th centuries, great attention was paid to the deepening of the foundations of monotheism, and the concepts of Sufism, such as death and survival, and the desire to be the source of truth, were vigorously propagated, then from the middle of the 13th century, the intellectual-ethical direction began to lead. This philosophical current became famous in the history of Sufism under the name "vahdatul vujud". Sufis are now confused with the structure of the universe, the characteristics of people, the relationship between the universe and man, and the meaning of the perfect human being. As a result, a whole philosophical system found its expression in the works of people like Ibn Arabi and Jalaluddin Rumi, who expressed many wonderful ideas about real human life, along with divine discoveries, spiritual and psychological states, and inner pleasures. Thus, Sufism included many centuries of Eastern intellectual development experiences and developed it, united the sciences of religion and philosophy, wisdom and unity, speech and hadith, tried to connect theological sciences with worldly sciences. As a result, Sufism has become a phenomenon that defines the way of thinking and moral norms of the people of the East. |
