meaning and reflect its imagery, find a similar phrase in English and not neglect the stylistic
function of the phraseological unit. When there is no equivalent representation in English,
the translator is forced to look for "approximate matches". When translating phrasal units,
the translator must be able to determine whether he is dealing with a variable or a block
phrase. For this, there should be a large "receptive fund of phraseological units". It should
be remembered that phrases, as well as words, are characterized by polysemy and
homonymy, and one of the meanings can be a phraseological unit, and one of the
homonyms can be a phraseological unit. For example, the phrase "burn your fingers" means
1. to burn your fingers and 2. to burn yourself on something, to make a mistake; to be narrow-
shouldered can have a literal meaning (to be narrow-shouldered) and a phraseological
meaning (not to understand a joke). "Remember that" can mean "Don't remind me of that"
and "No, thank you, please." Phraseologisms "to throw a book at someone". means "to
imprison someone for the maximum term". But the context in which this phrase is used as a
variable is theoretically possible. Phraseologism can sometimes differ from a variable
phrase only by an article, in which case it is a formal distinguishing feature. For example: to
go to sea - - to become a sailor; draw a line - draw a line - set the permissible limit.

In modern English it is usually used in abbreviated form: to wear one's heart upon
one's sleeve. Also, another preposition - on can be used instead of the preposition on. The
phraseological fund of the English language is so large that its complete study does not
correspond to the scope of this work. Nevertheless, using the example of the considered
phraseological units, it is possible to clearly imagine how diverse the semantics and
expressiveness of phraseological units in modern English are. Thanks to the literary works
of writers and poets from Great Britain itself, there are now many phraseological units in
English. But we should not forget that many phraseological units have entered the English
language from the history and culture of different countries of the world.
