For this reason, Sufism is interpreted as the main meaning of human life and activity, to make a living by honest work, remembering the name of God. This way of Sufism, in terms of its main essence, is also important because it connects religious faith and faith with worldly problems and encourages people to contribute to their just solution. The doctrine of Sufism appeared in the Islamic world in the middle of the 8th century. At first, it sprouted in the form of an ascetic movement. After the death of our Prophet Muhammad, there was a division in the Muslim community, especially during the time of the caliph Osman, it was customary to focus on wealth, to honor relatives and close friends with expensive gifts. By the time of the Ummaviya caliphate, palace luxuries, luxurious decorations, obsession with gold and silver, and accumulation of treasure were on the rise. That is, worldly affairs and love for worldly goods began to take the place of religious activities and obedience to God. This situation caused the displeasure of religious people who put the fulfillment of religious commandments above all worldly affairs and wealth. Where did the word Sufi come from? There are several views on this. Some say that this word comes from the word "pure", because a Sufi is one who stands in the first line of those who have entered the path of God. Some scholars said that it was derived from the word "suffa": the Companions of the Suffa were pious people who renounced the world during the lifetime of the Prophet, and they explained that the Sufis imitated them. Another group of scholars said that the word Sufi comes from the word "Safa", because the heart of this class shines with the sun of Safa. Others write that sufuh, which is derived from the word sufi "sufuh", is the conclusion of something, and because this community is the conclusion of the people, they are called Sufis. There are those who say that the word Sufi comes from the word "pure". Abu Rayhan Beruni in his work "Asorul Baqiya..." shows that |
