Of broken glass to "Decorate" it. We'd be very quiet and respectful while doing this and then We'd say a 'Hail Mary' before scampering of to continue playing! We didn't know who whas buried in this Tiny Grave, but I learnt much later that it was our uncle Tom's Twin who died at child birth. There's a small grave in the Bredbo cemetery with a headstone for little Gordon Crimmins aged 3 years. Not long before our auntie Hilda died (aged 89) she told my sisters and i the sad story behind this grave. It was 1915 and little Gordon was 3 and our auntie Hilda couldn't have been much older. They were with their parents in a Paddock near the house and Hilda was told to mind her little brother while they fixed the fence. Being only a child herself she must have taken her eyes off the little fellow fora minute and when she looked back he was missing. The parents were frantic when they couldn't see him and grand father Crimmins raced to the well which was nearby. They found him there, but it was too late, they couldn't revive him. I was six years old when world war two broke out in september 1939. The next year we moved to "Cappawidgee", a sheep station six miles out of bredbo where dad had the job of managing while the owner, peter osbourne went in the army. His wife Bonita was an actress in Sydney, and although we kids didn't go much on "Mr. Osbourne" we loved Mrs. Osbourne, especially when she brought us a big bag of her cast off clothes when she made a rare visit!! She was only Tiny, but even so her clothes were still too big for us, but we used to wear them around just the same! We must have looked real "dags" in them! Download 51.48 Kb.
