But that doesn't mean creating an effective proposal depends on magic or luck.2
Experienced writers know that the main parts of a sentence can be combined and arranged in countless ways. Therefore, when working to improve a manuscript, it is important to understand what these basic structures are and how to use them effectively.

One way to begin learning sentence structures is to look at the traditional parts of speech (aka word classes) : nouns, pronouns , verbs, adjectives, adverbs , prepositions , conjunctions, and clauses . Apart from sentences ("ugh!") that stand on their own, parts of speech come in many forms and can appear almost anywhere in a sentence. To find out which part of speech a word belongs to, you need to look not only at the word itself, but also at its meaning, place and use in the sentence.

Subjects, verbs and objects


The main parts of a sentence are a subject, a verb , and (often, but not always ) an object . A subject is usually a noun , a word that refers to a person, place, or thing. A verb (or predicate ) usually follows the subject and defines an action or state. The object takes the action and usually follows the verb.3
