Instead of a languagestructure, students are presented with a task they haveto perform or a problem they have to solve.FOCUSThe focus is on language use for authentic, real-world needs.TBLrelies heavily on learners’ knowledge of the world,on learners’ using skills of deduction and independentlanguage analysis to exploit the situation fully.Motivation for communication becomes the primarydriving force. The emphasis is on communicative fluencyrather than the accuracy. The target language isused in a naturally occurring context. The materialsare selected and adopted from authentic sources.Disadvantagesof TBLThe major criticism of TBL concerns its applicabilityto lower learning levels. However, there aremany tasks that are suitable for beginners or younglearners. Another point of criticism is about restrictedpatterns of language that are usually used in the Task-Based Learning.
