Alternative concert venues 
Many people are unfamiliar with so-called alternative concert venues, but they can be great 
places to listen to live music. Unusual examples of architecture, like old steel works, churches

and Roman amphitheatres, are now venues for concerts by musicians playing everything from 
hip hop to classical music. The organizers who set up these concerts think it’s the acoustics that 
count. If a venue has the right acoustics, i.e. the sound in the room is good, they’ll use it.
The Cumberland Caverns in McMinnville, Tennessee in the USA, are some of the longest caves 
in the world. The curved and rough walls of the cave look beautiful with lights on them during a 
concert. People in this part of the world are obsessed with bluegrass music and that’s why these 
bands usually play here. Then, there’s the beautiful Forest Stage near to Berlin in Germany. The 
white roof over the stage contrasts with the dark green colour of the trees all around it. Concert 
halls can also be something special too. Look at the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago in the USA, for 
example. It has a dramatic painting of the night sky on its ceiling, so when the fans look up 
above them, they see stars.
