Glossary
1. Noun - A word used to identify any of a class of people, places, or things. 2. Inflection - The modification of a word to express different grammatical categories such as tense, case, number, gender, etc. 3. Declension - The inflection of nouns, pronouns, and adjectives to indicate their grammatical case, number, and gender. 4. Grammatical gender - A system of noun classification based on the gender of the referent. 5. Strong noun - A noun that forms its plural by changing its stem vowel or adding a suffix. 6. Weak noun - A noun that forms its plural by adding an -en or -n suffix. 7. Compound noun - A noun made up of two or more words that function as a single unit. 8. Borrowed noun - A noun borrowed from another language and incorporated into Middle English. 9. Abstract noun - A noun that refers to an intangible concept or idea. 10. Concrete noun - A noun that refers to a physical object or substance. 11.Declension - The inflection of nouns, pronouns, and adjectives to indicate their grammatical case, number, and gender. 12. Gender - A grammatical category that distinguishes between masculine, feminine, and neuter nouns. 13. Case - A grammatical category that indicates the relationship between a noun or pronoun and other elements in a sentence, such as the subject, object, or possessive. 14. Plural - A grammatical number that indicates more than one of a noun. 15. Singular - A grammatical number that indicates one of a noun. 16. Genitive - A grammatical case that indicates possession or ownership.
