Designing Grammar Materials For A2 Level Learners Plan

1. Role Of Grammar In Learning English

2. Importance Of Teaching Materials In Different Learner Levels

3. Designing Grammar Materials For A1 Levels

We have created this workbook for students at an A2 level, but could be used with A1 and B1 level students. It focuses on grammar, vocabulary, and the four language skills, and it has been designed to make lessons more interesting and engaging, as each chapter builds on a story that students are part of.The teacher’s resource contains lesson plans to accompany each chapter, as well as the listening scripts and additional materials. Without grammar, words hang together without any real meaning or sense. In order to be able to speak a language to some degree of proficiency and to be able to say what we really want to say, we need to have some grammatical knowledge

. By teaching grammar we not only give our students the means to express themselves, but we also fulfil their expectations of what learning a foreign language involves. Fortunately, nowadays with the emphasis on a communicative approach and a wealth of stimulating resources, teaching grammar does not necessarily mean endless conjugation of verbs or grammar translation. As you know, exposure to authentic graded speech in context promotes proficiency and keeps motivation high for Elementary A2 students. Listening to authentic speech is sometimes challenging, though most students are willing to listen again and again until they obtain a feel for a new grammar point or group of words. Below is a quick overview of each of the 5 Listening Activities for Elementary A2 students.

Each lesson is backed up with Homework Activities that use the same recordings and allow the student to listen at his or her own pace, while completing a deeper understanding of the speech. Naturally, the exercises in the Homework Activities build on what is covered in each lesson, but promote for a better understanding of the words in context. In this lesson we expose students to the pronunciation of have to and has to in everyday natural speech. We also look at the differences that exist between the use of have to and must, especially between British and North American speakers.
