Lecturer: As you see from the definition, there is quite a range
of components of nonverbal communication. All nonverbal
messages can be classified into four major categories. They
are: kinesics, paralanguage, proxemics and image. These four
groups in their turn consist of several subcategories.
Well, firstly, kinesics … this is the study of body movement.
The way a person stands and holds their body sends messages
about their feelings and self-confidence. For example, what
could stooped shoulders signal?
Students: They’re scared.
Lecturer: Right, they might be afraid or feel guilty, or lack
confidence.
