Rhetorical Devices

  • Rhetorical Question—a question asked to the audience; no verbal answer expected; purpose—to force the audience to think.

  • Repetition—repeating key word/phrase purpose—for emphasis; to make a point (I have a dream…)

  • Parallelism—repetition of sentence structure [“Veni, vidi, vici. (I came, I saw, I conquered).” Julius Caesar]
