e.g. She doesn't seem to be a creative manager. She + to be a creative manager = Complex Subject;


b) Objective-with-inf. :
{see/hear/make/let} sb(me,him,her) DO sth;
{expect/want/hate/would like} sb TO DO sth
e.g. Can expect you to help me? you to help = Complex Object.


5) IF-clauses (0, I, II,III).
Grammar forms used in Cond.II and III are:

In the principal clause – verb in the conditional mood (would do/ would have done); In the subordinate (if-clause) – verb in Subjunctive II (did/had done or were).


6) The use of Subjunctive I and the Suppositional mood (used with "reporting" verbs). The communicative function – to


sb suggests/ insists/demands/requires THAT he/she DO/Should do sb
(DO Subjunctive I; Should do – Suppositional mood)

7) The use of the personal pronouns: SHE is used in English with the nouns "church", "country", "ship", "Britain" to denote the gender.


8) Task: state the morphological difference: "to reach a peak" and "it peaks"


(morph. difference means difference in parts of speech –e.g. a peak (noun); it peaks - verb )

9) Task: state the communicative function of the modal verbs: can, may, should, must. The functions can be : expression of ability, logical assumption, advice, etc. depending on the CONTEXT.


10) Task: state the "– ed" verb forms. They can be: passive infinitive (to be motivated); participle II (a planted tree); adjective – if you can form degrees of comparison or the word is used figuratively (motivated staff); verb in Past Simple (She planted the tree a week ago.)


11) Task: identify the forms of the verbs: "If I could speak French, I would have a pen pal from France" (It's a subordinate clause of Conditional II sentence, so could speak here Subjunctive II ); "He said he could speak French" (This is the sentence pattern with reported speech, could speak here is Past Simple that describes present situations).

12) Task: state the functional pattern of the sentence. They can be: declarative (describing sth); imperative (expressing order, advice etc); questions.
