43. Speak about Mnemonic devices? Give examples?
Mnemonic devices are memory aids that help us organize information for encoding . They are especially useful when we want to recall larger bits of information such as Steps, stages, phases, and parts of a system (Bellezza, 1981). Laura needs to learn the order of the seven levels of Bloom’s taxonomy, but she’s having A hard time remembering the correct order. Her teacher suggests a mnemonic device that Can help her remember. Teacher tells to remember the name
“RuaAec” – which are all Capital letters of seven levels:
Remembering, Understanding, Applying,
Analyzing,Evaleating. You might use a mnemonic device to help you remember Someone’s name or a mathematical formula.
Mnemonic devices often help us to remember and recall information. There are different Types of mnemonic devices, such as the acronym. An acronym is a word formed by the First letter of each of the words you want to remember. For example, even if you live near One, you might have difficulty recalling the names of all five Great Lakes. What if I told You to think of the word
Homes? HOMES is an acronym that represents Huron,
Ontario, Michigan, Erie, and Superior: the five Great Lakes. Another type of mnemonic device is An acrostic: you make a phrase of all the first letters of the words. For example, if you are Taking a math test and you are having difficulty remembering the order of operations,
Recalling the following sentence will help you: “Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally,” Because the order of mathematical operations is Parentheses, Exponents, Multiplication, Division, Addition, Subtraction. There also are jingles, which are rhyming tunes that contain key words related to the concept, such as i before e, except after c.
44. Define what is chunking and give example? Chunking is another strategy that enables to organize information into manageable Chunks (Bodie, Powers, and Fitch-Hauser, 2006). It is useful when trying to remember Dates and phone numbers. For example 998914424079 is not easy to remember, but it Becomes easy if you break the number into parts as 998 91 442 40 79 and use rehearsal Strategy (repeat several times) to memorise. The chunking definition is grouping related items together so that someone can remember them more easily. An example of chunking is grouping the everyday items someone needs to have in their pockets before leaving the house. This might include house keys, car keys, cell phone, and a wallet or purse. Because these are everyday-use items and needed to function in someone’s daily lives, this group can be “chunked” together for memory purposes. Chunking is a strategy used to improve short-term memory ability.
An example of the chunking memory strategy would be remembering the four pieces of the following technolog y as one related group; cell phone, computer, tablet, smartwatch. These are easier to remember because they are everyday-use items usually used in conjunction with each other. Another example of the chunking strategy is grouping all the items that someone might take on vacation together, such as clothes, a suitcase, a backpack, a passport or driver’s license, a cell phone, a computer, and a tablet. The chunking technique works well because it is chunking the information together into one group.
