What are the four reading styles? Explain each reading styles.

Skimming
Scanning
Intensive Reading
Extensive Reading


Skim to quickly gather the most important information in a reading material.


Scan to find a particular piece of information without reading everything.


Read extensively to get general information of a subject.


Read intensively to understand specific information.

7.Application
(10 minutes)

Now, for our last activity, I would like you to work by group and answer the following questions. You will find the answers on the different reading materials that I will distribute in a little while. I have here Magazines, Books, and News Papers.
Once you receive the reading materials, you may start working with your group.



  1. What is the headline on the newspaper given to you?

  2. In your English Book, what is the Title of the lesson found in page 73?

  3. What item that caught your attention in the magazine?

  4. Who are the characters in the story found in page 75?

  5. What new vocabulary or word you have discovered in the story?

What you are doing is an example of the different reading styles. Reading Styles are different strategies to get important details or information from the material we are reading.
