TEACHER DEVELOPMENT Most applicants (161) for National Board Certification in State of Maryland this year 63 National Board Certified Teachers 87% of PGCPS teachers fully certified 71% of all core academic classes are taught by “Highly Qualified” teachers 79% of classes in Title I schools are taught by “Highly Qualified” teachers

SAT PARTICIPATION 2006-07 PGCPS saw an additional 565 students take the SAT in 2007 as compared to 2006 12.6% INCREASE in in PGCPS compared to a 7.3% increase statewide

ADVANCEMENT VIA INDIVIDUAL DETERMINATION (AVID) NINE PGCPS middle schools began AVID programs this year:
INTERNATIONAL BACCALAURATE (IB) The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program is a rigorous, two-year course of study for high school juniors and seniors Completion of the IB Diploma is comparable to the first year of college FOUR PGCPS HIGH SCHOOLS currently have the IB program including Central, Laurel, Suitland, and Parkdale
IB MIDDLE YEARS PROGRAM The International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program (MYP) is designed for students aged 11 to 16. Students in the Middle Years Program study eight subject groups and view these subjects through multiple lenses
PRE-KINDERGARTEN PGCPS expanded its PRE-K program by an ADDITIONAL 91 classes this year PGCPS is responsible for opening 321 Pre-K classrooms in the past five years The number of students entering kindergarten fully prepared has increased by 23% according to the State’s school readiness report
PARENT INVOLVEMENT EVERY SCHOOL has a Parent Liaison and Parent Resource Center PGCPS hired 107 new Pupil Personnel Workers (PPWs) and 221 Parent Liaisons These professionals join with other support personnel to coordinate services for students, families, and schools
This School Year… - Pupil Personnel Workers will work with parents and community organizations to increase student attendance by 5% annually and increase the on-time graduation rate of all students
- 80% of parents and children will complete an annual Individual Learning Plan with their school counselor to support student development and progress toward goals
LITTER FREE SCHOOLS PGCPS has Litter Free Schools partnership with Keep Prince George’s County Beautiful and ABITIBI Consolidated, Inc. This school year, all PGCPS elementary schools and administration buildings will begin a clean paper recycling program Middle and high schools will be litter free by the end of the 2008-09 school year
