Disability grant To qualify for a disability grant: you must earn less than R800; you must be a South African citizen; you must be resident in South Africa at the time of application; you must be between 18 to 59 years of age if a female and 18 to 64 years of age if a male; you must submit a medical/assessment report confirming your disability; your spouse must meet the requirements of the means test; you must not be maintained or cared for in a state institution; you must not be in receipt of another social grant in respect of yourself; you must submit a 13 digit bar-coded identity document.

To qualify for a housing subsidy, you must earn less than R800. Disabled beneficiaries who earn less than R800 may receive special additions to their houses to enable them independent living in normal residential areas. These additions have been tailor made to accommodate the variety of special housing needs. Such special additions to houses entail concrete aprons and ramps to facilitate access to houses, special grab rails in bathrooms, kick plates to doors, visible doorbells and special access arrangements to toilets.
