Textbook; the DVD of the book Homework checking. 10 min STEP 1: Homework activity 1a. Elicit answers from the class for homework activity 1a. Accept any answers. STEP 2: Homework activity 1b. Ask: “Who agreed that the part of the body which is the most important is the shoulder?” STEP 3: Say: “It’s not just the pain in the parts of the body you can see that are important. We also feel pain in our feelings”. STEP 4: Ask: “Does anyone else have another answer?” Accept anything reasonable, e.g. heart so you can love and feel other people’s pain; smell so we can get hungry; touch so we can feel things around us; taste so we can enjoy our food and drink. STEP 5: Homework activity 1c. Say: “Work in pairs. Read the text and the answers. What is the correct answer? Why?” STEP 6: Elicit the answer but make sure that the pupils understand the meaning of empathy and that pain can be about feelings and not just broken bones.
