Fortune teller (prediction): You are going to smell horrible monster in the
fridge. What will you do?
Response (plan for action): I will quickly put on some gloves and carefully open
the door of the fridge. If the monster is friendly, I will
take him to the bathroom and tell him to take a
shower.

Procedure
Draw a blank grid on the board and ask the children to copy it onto their
piece of paper. See Box 64.
Tell the children that this is a three-storey apartment building (or block of
flats) consisting of a ground floor, a first floor and a second floor. It is
called a ‘house of horrors’ because of the very strange people who live
there. You may want to write some of the unfamiliar vocabulary like
wicked witch on the board.
Tell the children that you are going to slowly and deliberately read out
the descriptions of where the people live in the house of horrors. Ask
them to listen carefully and write the name of the person on the correct
apartment/flat. See Box 65.
Allow time for the children to process the information and to write the
name of the occupant in the correct apartment/flat.
When you have finished, ask the children to compare their answers with
the child sitting next to them.
