2. GENERAL INDICATORS OF POPULATION REPRODUCTION

Methodological explanations
The information on birth and death rates is obtained based on monthly statistical elaboration of birth and death statements compiled by registration Office of the Ministry of Justice. Number of births includes only number of live-births.
Natural increase of population is equal to difference between the number of birth and death.
Crude birth and death rates is ratio of live birth and death to average annual size of the population. This indicator is calculated per 1000 population.
Annual average number of population – mathematically estimated average number at the beginning and end of the year.
Natural increase rate is characterized by relative indicators. This indicator is defined by means of dividing of natural increase of population by average annual size of population or difference between crude birth and death rates.
Fertility rate reflects average number of birth per women during her reproductive period (15- 49 years old) and this rate is calculated by means of multiplication of age rate of birth by length of each age interval.
As a result, the sum is divided by 1000, i.e. this indicator is calculated per women.

Life expectancy at birth (for 0 age) is an average number of years to be lived by person from a cohort of those born in a given year, if he (she) would be subjected in each age to the same mortality level experienced in the year(s) to which this indicator has been computed.
Cross reproduction rate (GRR) covers the average number of daughters that would be born to a woman during her fertility period and it is often regarded as the extent to which the generation of daughters replaces the preceding generation of females.
This indicator is calculated without taking into account death factor, i.e. probability of survival of mothers and daughters before completing reproductive period. Gross reproduction rate of population is calculated as fertility rate, but only daughters are considered during calculation.
Net reproduction rate (NRR) is calculated taking into account death factor. The net reproduction rate is characterized by average number of daughters that would be born to a female if she passed through her lifetime conforming to the age-specific fertility and mortality rates of a given year. Mainly this rate is calculated from per women standpoint. This indicator may be calculated per 1000 women too.
If this rate is equal to 1.0, then birth and death rates provide simple reproduction rate of the population. If net reproduction rate is less or more than 1.0, then reproduction rate is reduced or increased.
