Green Capitals "in the Hearts and Minds of the People"

Final words 
The EGCA is a multi-faceted tool whose different phases can meet the needs of cities in 
many ways, and whose structure is still changing to adapt to even more needs. 
Whatever phase of the contest their city reached, all officials from EGCA applicants were 
glad that their administration participated in the award. The accounts of the officials who 
worked on the Green Capital Year were even quite enthusiastic, as these practitioners were 
pleased to witness so many actors in the city joining forces for one initiative on sustainability.
Whether the EGCA impact on sustainability policy is also “hard”, or whether it remains in the 
"soft" form of the practitioners’ enthusiasm is something that needs to be inquired on. What 
emerges from the accounts of practitioners at the moment is that this award cannot be 
constrained into a limited definition, and the analysis should touch upon much more aspects 
than literature has done so far if its real potential in the context of the European Green Deal 
is to be assessed.
