“The Fault in our Stars”

  1. The novel title, author, year of publication.

“The Fault in our Stars” is the 6th novel by the popular American writer John Green. The book was published in 2012, and after 2 years a great film was shot based on the book, but the book has an advantage, it has moment that you will not find in a movie.

  1. Who is in the story? Describe what they are like?

The novel, “The fault in our stars” by John Green is about two young adults diagnosed with cancer who fall in love with each other. When they are in love they learn the value and morals of life, until the story ends with a tragic ending when Augustus dies from terminal cancer. This love and care are very important to Hazel as it shows Hazel that people care about her, and gives her something worth living and fighting for. This love and care does not just end there, Mrs Lancaster(Hazel’s mother) helps her daughter to pass tis difficult situation in life. This love helps Hazel move on with her life, pass this major obstacle.
The moral of the book:
As a whole, we spend a great deal of time trying to avoid pain but, if we read carefully, The Fault in our Stars also teaches us that “pain demands to be felt” and “the universe likes to be noticed.” No matter how we try, Gus is right we don’t get to choose if we get hurt; it is a near certainly that we will…
In the 2nd chapter Augustus invites Hazel to his home to show her a film in which the main character is very similar to her. Augustus was driving and all the way they talked about different topics, Hazel about her illness and Augustus about how he failed 3 times driving exams. When they got out of the car, Hazel followed him. He lived in a two –story house. There was a wooden plaque over the front door “ Home is where the heart is”. Similar sayings could be seen in his house at different things. For example, “Good friends are hard to find and Impossible to forget” above the coatrack, “ True love is born from hard times”, on the needle bed in the living room, a piece of stained glsass by the sink read in bubbly letters “Family is forever”, “ In the darkest days, the Lord puts the best people into your life”. The atmosphere in the house was so cozy and it is seemed to me that they were a very friendly family. Gus’s parents were making their traditional enchiladas in the kitchen. Augustus introduced his parents to Hazel and they talked amicably at the table. Hazel liked that his parents even one time did not ask about her oxygen tank or diagnosis, which was not usual. Then the guys went to the living room to watch TV for Vendetta and Augustus held up the book “The Price of Down”.
In the 3rd chapter the next morning Hazel woke up very late with the feeling of her mother’s hand on her shoulder. Mom said you never woke up so late and Hazel told her that she was reading the book which Augustus gave her all night. Mother tried to lift her out of bed for along time and then suddenly screamed; “ Today 29th of March, Hazel it’s your thirty-third half birthday!” Hazel and her friend Kaitlyn went to shopping at the mall. There they were choosing shoes for themselves and when Hazel offered Kaitlyn a very nice pair of sandals she refused to wear them because she was having a complex due to her slightly long second toes. After they bought several pairs of flip-flops, Kaitlyn offered her to go to the Anthropologie, but Hazel had to say that it would be better to go home because of tired. She very liked Kaitlyn but for three years without normal communication with peers, she moved away from them and thinks that the bridge over the abyss that has arisen cannot be jumped. At the corner of the mall, she found a bench and sat down to read “Midnight Downs”. She had almost finished reading this book when a little girl came up to her and asked what was in her nose. She replied that it is called a canula, that the tubes give her oxygen to help her breathe. Jackie asked: “Would that help breathe me too?”. Hazel was already feeling the lack of oxygen and was breathing hard when she gave canula to Jackie.
3.Where is the story set?
I liked the book, the plot interesting. The author did not dwell on the illnesses of the main characters, and throughout the story we practically do not feel sorry for the heroes. Also, I great movie was made based on the book, but the book has an advantage, there are moments in it that you won’t find in a movie. The book hooked me with its simple language. The book touches on the problems of the characters, and as the plot develops, we get to know them from different sides.
4.Would I recommend the novel for reading?Why?
Yes, I recommend this novel for reading especially for teenagers. This novel will help them to understand the main features of their life and to love parents, friends and themselves.
