grouping enabling to sacrifice the needs of low achievers in favor of the high
achievers.
• Low level skills: Students in low-ability groups are likely to be exposed to
more low-level skills than are students in middle and high groups.
• Segregation. One of the most consistent effects of ability grouping is to create
classes that have disproportionate numbers of students from the same racial or
social groups.
• Self-esteem and feelings of inferiority. The feelings of inferiority and
worthlessness may be the outcome the students in low achieving groups.
• Delinquency, and dropout: Students in the low track are still more likely to be
delinquent than are other students and are less likely to complete their
education.
b. Random Choice
• It needs more time to know the characteristics of group members.
• It may put troublesome students in the same group.
• It needs more time to combine the ideas, because some considerations may
happen.
c. Teacher Choice
• It may have students feel uncomfortable with their group.
• Students may not work based on teacher wants.
d. Student Choice are:
• Students will always stick to the same people. In the same way, if the teacher
lets them choose where they sit in the class they will always sit in the same
place. The danger with letting the students decide who they want to work with
on activities is that it will always be the same and therefore cliques of
friendship groups will form within the class. This won’t benefit the group as a
whole in the long run. Friends may not necessarily always work well together,
so although the teacher may decide to let students decide who they work with at
times, you probably shouldn’t let them choose all the time.
