I was deeply shocked to learn of the severe earthquake which devastated the city of Christ-

church and claimed so many lives. Your country has now been hit by an earthquake twice 

within a short space of time.

I would like to express my heartfelt sympathy to you, also on behalf of my fellow Germans.

Please convey our condolences to the families of the victims. Our hearts go out to them at this 

time of sorrow.
