If you have done everything correctly up to now, the wires should almost automatically 
glide into the 8 canals of the connector. Once each canal has the correct wire inserted, 
push the cable firmly down the connector so that each wire is visible at the other end of 
the connector. Examine the canals with care to make sure every wire is sufficiently 
inserted and located under the pins of the connector. Check the color codes of the wires 
again as well; looking at both sides of the connector enables you to examine the color 
codes.

Use the crimping tool to fix the connector on the cable 
Once you have made it absolutely certain that all wires are in order and in place, just 
insert the connector into the crimping tool (there is just one way to do this), and press it 
firmly. This causes the pins to be pressed into the wires and make a firm electrical 
contact.

Repeat steps 1 to 4 for the other end 
Of course a cable must have a connector at both sides.

Check the connectivity of the cable 
If you have a cable tester, it makes life a lot easier, as you can just insert the cable 
connectors into the cable tester and run a visual test. The cable tester shows immediately 
whether the connections are functioning. If there is a bad connection, try to examine the 
connectors visually in order to decide if you have to start all over again (e.g. because you 
did not check on the correct order of the color codes) or if it still possible to correct the 
problem (e.g. maybe one pin was not pressed down entirely, not a common problem but it 
might happen with a cheap crimping tool). 
If you don’t have a cable tester available, try to connect a computer to the network, 
probably there is a computer that is already connected with another cable, just replace 
this cable with the new one for the sake of experiment and see if your connection still 
works.
Summary 
This document focused on the production of a network cable. Although it is a rather 
simple process, it nevertheless requires some practice. Especially in the beginning it will 
be difficult to move the wires into the correct position. 
However, there is little that can go wrong if you follow the steps carefully. The 
advantages of possessing this knowledge are clear: making a cable of your own will save 
time and money and makes one less dependent on outside IT personnel. Also, you can 
make a cable of the length and color you want!
