Metro Mirror Usage – Intra-Cluster with standard edition

  • Intra-Cluster Metro Mirror – Primary and Secondary exist in the same SVC Cluster

    • For intra-cluster Metro Mirror, note that licensing must account for source + target capacity
  • Priced based on the amount of storage using Metro Mirror

  • Storage using Metro Mirror is derived from the total size of all primary/secondary virtual disks in active Metro Mirror relationships

  • Starting with V4.3 Metro/Global Mirror capacity is monitored, thus capacity purchased for this cluster must be entered at time of cluster set up or migration to V4.3 or higher

Metro/Global Mirror Usage – Cross Cluster (standard per-TB)

  • Cross Cluster Metro/Global Mirror – Primary and Secondary exist in two separate SVC clusters

  • Storage using Metro/Global Mirror is derived from the total size of all primary/secondary virtual disks in active Metro/Global Mirror relationships (intra-cluster or cross-cluster)

  • For cross-cluster Metro/Global Mirror, the customer must have two SAN Volume Controller clusters. Therefore, if these two clusters are located in two different countries for the same customer, the customer has to purchase two SVC Storage Software licenses with Metro/Global Mirror, one for each country. Customers can choose to entitle Metro/Global Mirror for any cluster via SVC standard edition, SVC Entry Edition software, or SVC for XIV software

  • Starting with V4.3 entitlement tracking for Metro/Global mirror is monitored, thus enter either the source and/or target capacity for each SVC cluster at initial cluster setup or when migrating to V4.3 or higher
