27- Some people prefer to live in a small town. Others prefer to live in a big 
city.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of living in a big city? Which 
place would you prefer to live in?
Use specific reasons and details to support your answer.
Most people live in places where they can enjoy their lives; even though some 
people like living in small rural areas, some people prefer to live in large modern 
cities and while the wide range of facilities available in a large modern city can 
benefit its inhabitants in so many different ways, it certainly causes some 
problems for them. 
Most people prefer to live in a large modern city since there is a wide range of 
facilities in a large modern city including transport facilities, social and 
recreational facilities, educational facilities and a lot more, such as medical 
facilities; there are large up-to-date hospitals and schools and other community 
facilities most of which are not available in a small town. Public facilities existing 
in a large modern city also include disabled facilities and sports facilities which a
small town lacks.
Nevertheless one can’t ignore the disadvantages either, consider the hustle and 
bustle of a large modern city for instance, most large cities are crowded, noisy 
and at times polluted, and you can never find the peace and quiet of a small 
town in a large city. There is also usually a higher crime rate in large modern 
cities. Living expenses are also much higher in large cities and this forces the 
residents to work harder in order to earn a living. 
In conclusion, I do prefer to live in a large modern city; of course I realize the 
fact that there are some disadvantages in living in a large modern city. However, 
you cannot compare the facilities available in small towns and modern cities, the 
existing facilities in a modern city are far more extensive that those in a small 
town. There are enough employment opportunities in a small town and finally I 
cannot extend my education in a small town since there are not enough 
universities and colleges.
