26- A company has announced that it wishes to build a large factory near 
your community. 
Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of this new influence on your 
community. Do you support or oppose the factory? 
Use specific reasons to support your opinion. 
These days I hear news about a big company which intends to build a large 
factory in the proximity of my neighborhood. I think living close to a large 
manufacturing firm certainly has a lot of considerable merits, even though it 
might cause some problems for the residents of the neighboring communities. 
The factory can help decrease the rate of unemployment in this area. 
Unfortunately recently there have been few employment opportunities in my 
community and most people go downtown in search of employment; therefore, 
the construction of a large factory can save people from commuting to and from 
work in the city center. The factory will also place more importance on our town. 
I mean more people will be traveling to our neighborhood and therefore the local 
businesses will flourish as well. 
However, there will be some problems for the residents too; For example, if 
accurate measures to combat pollution are not taken the area may be 
threatened by pollution. Chemical wastes produced by the factory will 
contaminate the water resources and may endanger the lives of people as well 
as the ecosystem. The people may as well face more traffic jams in the
neighborhood as more people rush into the town in the morning. 
On the whole, I believe we need this factory; people have been suffering from 
financial problems in recent years, and the low unemployment has led to an 
increasing rate of crime and violence among the youth. Many people spend 
several hours commuting to and from work and many people have emigrated to 
other cities and have settled down there. Our town is disappearing and we need 
this factory to save it.
