28- In general, people these days live longer in most countries of the 
world. 
Discuss the causes of this phenomenon. Use specific reasons and details 
to develop your essay.
Living longer has always been a dream for most human beings, and they have 
tried throughout history to find ways to achieve longevity; luckily their efforts 
have led to some good results and now according to official figures, average life 
expectancy in many countries of the world has increased. In my opinion the 
most important reason for this phenomenon is adequate healthcare and better 
hygiene.
In the past most people who contracted the formerly fatal diseases would die in 
no time. There were no remedies for such diseases and only a very small 
proportion of the people afflicted with a fatal disease would survive. Infant 
mortality rate was, therefore, extremely high since children were more 
vulnerable and their immune system was the weakest. But these days most 
children are vaccinated against most fatal diseases and their immune system is 
stronger. Nowadays there are treatments for most diseases or at least people 
can take preventive measures against most of them. 
Furthermore, nowadays the food that we eat and the water that we drink are 
hygienic. Most people in the past did not have access to clean water recourses. 
In areas where people were not close to mountainous areas, they had to 
consume even dirty water. Nowadays people carry their foods in sterilized 
packages and keep them in their fridges; hence the chances of contamination 
are low. People nowadays can use fruits and vegetables from far-away places 
transported in refrigerated containers and can take in a range of vitamins and 
minerals therefore they are healthier. 
In conclusion, I think the technological advances in different fields have helped 
people live longer than before and they will certainly pave the way for still a 
higher average life expectancy, and people will live a longer life providing they 
pay attention to their lifestyles, healthcare and hygiene.
