De scribe a place where you often visit with friends and family - Where is it - How you know the place - How you go there - Why you want to visit it • I love shopping. • It’s one of my favorite hobbies. • I normally do shopping in bulk at wholesale stores. • There is one such store – Best Price around 15 mins drive from Jalandhar. • The store opened around four five years ago. • I remember when it opened there was a huge advertisement and one could see claims like best price guarantee. • I thought it was a marketing gimmick • Then one day my uncle visited it and told us the claims are not false. • The store really offers huge discounts. • There are heavier discounts on larger order sizes. • We normally go there once every month. • It’s around 12 kms from my house. We normally prefer to take our car. • Sometimes my uncle also joins us. • We buy so many things like groceries, utensils, cleaning supplies and fruits. • Recently they added a new garments section too. • Another advantage is that the store offers free cardboard packaging. • Also on orders worth more than Rs 5000 they offer free home delivery as well. • They have a good parking space too. • But during festival season even this huge parking falls short • We can see queues outside the store. • I can spend hours and hours here just shopping and never getting bored. • There is just one thing that I dislike and it’s the long queues at the checkout counters. • They have around 20 checkout counters and they are always full. • It takes anywhere between 15 to 30 minutes waiting for the turn. • It ones place I can safely say the wait is worth the fruit. Follow ups 1. Do you like to hang out with your friends? Yes, I like to go out with my friends quite often. We normally meet over the weekends and watch a movie together or go for shopping. Sometimes we just roam around in the market when we are free. 2. What do you think is the most important thing of being friends? The most important thing about being friends is caring for each other. Yes it is very easy to make friends nowadays because of technology. Earlier people could make friends only when they met someone but now they can make friends on social networking websites and also from different parts of the world. 4. How could people find reliable friends on the internet? Friends are really important part of our lives. In such a time it is difficult to find good and trustworthy friends, especially on the internet, so whenever you make friends online make sure you have some common interest and don’t share personal things in the beginning. Later you should also try to meet them in real life and learn more about them in this way you can be sure if they fake or real. 5. Do you like to make friends with older people? Yes I like to make friends with older people because one gets to learn a lot from them. Older people have lots of experiences to share from which we can learn and become successful in life. Also older people feel happy when younger people talk to them 6. Where do Indian people like to travel? India is a diverse country. There are a lot of places people like to travel. They visit historical places, museums. They travel to the mountains and beaches. They also travel to foreign countries. 7. Is there a difference between young people’s preference and old people’s preference? Yes, of course there is. Our likes and dislikes change with age. What an old person likes may seem too old-school to the young people. What the young people like may be frowned upon by the elderly. 8. Do you think interpersonal skills are more important than studying? Both things have their own importance. Even employers have started giving importance to these skills in addition to the degree. 9. What kinds of group activities do Indian people like to participate? Indian people like to participate in team sports , dances, singing and many other group activities. 10. What are the advantages and disadvantages of travelling with friends? The advantages are that you enjoy more with friends. You also feel secure. Describe about some story which you like a lot or someone told you about / Describe a memorable story told by someone. o Who told you this story? o When did you hear it? o What was the story about? o Why you liked this story? or Why you found it memorable • I have heard a lot of stories in my life. • I believe that storytelling is an art as old as civilization itself. • My grandmother used to tell me stories every night at bedtime. • All her stories were fun to hear • Some stories were fairy tales, some of princes and princesses and some were tales from the Panchtantra, which had animal characters in them. • Most of her stories had some moral behind them • Here I would like to talk about a story which she told me many times. • This is the story of the greedy dog. • Once upon a time there was a dog • He was very hungry. • He wandered here and there in search of food. • He got a juicy bone from a butcher’s shop. • He felt very happy. • He took the bone and ran away. • He reached on a bridge of a river. • He saw his own shadow in the water. • He thought that there was another dog with a juicy bone in his mouth. • His mouth watered and he wanted to snatch that bone from him. • He started barking on him and as he opened his mouth, the bone fell down from his mouth in to the river. • The dog lost his own juicy bone. • He repented at his greed. • But, alas nothing could be done. • The moral of the story is that the greedy lose what they have. • Greed is a curse. • My grandma used to teach me values of life through these stories. • Now, I tell these stories to my niece and nephew when they come to my place. • They enjoy these stories a lot. |
