After You Install
For general information about starting MATLAB and other setup tasks you
can perform after an installation, see “After You Install” on page 1-16. This
section describes some post-installation tasks that
are specific to concurrent
installations, including:
• Reducing startup time for clients in remote client access configurations
• Installing MATLAB Help files on a central file server
Reducing Startup Time with Toolbox Path Caching
You can significantly reduce MATLAB startup
time by using the MATLAB
toolbox path cache. The toolbox path cache stores search path information for
all toolbox directories under the MATLAB root directory.
This can be especially useful in a remote access client installation, where users
access MATLAB over a network server. (See “Remote
Client Access
Configuration” on page 2-3 for more information.) During startup, MATLAB
obtains path data from the cache rather than by reading it from the remote file
system.
To
use toolbox path caching, select
Preferences from the MATLAB
File menu.
On the Preferences dialog box, select the General preferences panel and click
the
Enable toolbox cache check box. To learn more about toolbox path
caching, click the
Help button in the Preferences dialog box.
Note If you install additional toolboxes, you
must regenerate the toolbox
path cache by repeating the steps described above.
Installing MATLAB Help Files in a Separate Directory
In a concurrent installation, you may prefer to install MATLAB Help files in a
central location
and make them available, over the network, to client systems.
This significantly reduces the amount of disk space required on each client
system in local client access configurations.
