There two layers required to be integrated into Garmin database which is the boundary and the lot layer, as the format of spatial database in Garmin is in .mif (Map Info Interchange) format both of the map Info layer are required to be converted to .mif format as shown in Figure 2. MIF file is a MapInfo Interchange Format Data which is used for a map and database exporting file format of MapInfo software product and this format is accepted in Garmin Navigation System. MapInfo Professional Interchange Format (MIF) is an ASCII file format that can fully describe a MapInfo Professional database. Both graphic and tabular data are exported into MIF files. The graphic data is in a file with a “.mif” extension, and the tabular data is in a file with a ".mid" extension. This versatile format allows generic data to be attached to a variety of graphical items. Since it is ASCII, it is editable, relatively easy to generate, and it acceptable on many topographic mapping software such as Global Mapper. Figure 2. Creating MapInfo data exchange format V. Marking point of interest GIS data which has been converted into MIF format is required to go through another conversion this time it has to be in GPX format. GPX stands for "GPS Exchange Format," a standardized data format for the exchange of waypoints, routes, and tracks between applications and Web services on the Internet [3]. Since MapInfo is not capable to convert data directly to GPX format it is necessary to have third party software that capable to support MIF and GPX data format. In this study the conversion was done using Globbal Mapper software as as it support both of the format. Under tool of Export Vector data, the Export GPX (GPS Exchange format) choose as shown in Figure 3. and select the MIF data to be converted .This format is the format that can be accepted in Portable GPS and Map Source. Figure 3. Creating GPS data exchange format The data that required to be integrated into Garmin navigation system can be selected either by drawing a box or directly loaded using radio button. In this study, the radio button of all loaded data was ticked and the area coverage by the specific coordinates. Figure 4 it shows all loaded data will be exported and the data will be saved. Figure 4. Defining the area coverage of the selected area After converting the data into GPX format is it required to create point of interest on the land parcel as the destination to be selected by the user. The point of interest is consider as the destination when a surveyor looking for the lot to conduct a cadastral surveying. The creating point of interest can be performed using way point tool in Map Source. The point then marks at each of lot and rename it referring to its lot name. In Figure 5, it shows the result of all POI lot that had remarked and renamed. 2011 IEEE 7th International Colloquium on Signal Processing and its Applications 471 |
