Get them to present their findings – In major projects, which may take weeks for the students to complete, get your pupils to present their findings and creations to people in the community who will appreciate their efforts. For example, if your class have worked hard on a conservation project, then invite a local wildlife expert to see their ideas. Doing this will encourage the students to take pride in their project and give it 100%.

  • Flexible marking – just like in real life, not everything can be assessed in black and white terms. Therefore for creative projects, developing a more flexible marking system will enable you to accurately assess your pupils’ attainment for your given assignment. For more information on how you can do this, check out this post.

If you have any more pointers on how to make your subject into a real-life context, please share your ideas with us below. And for more information on outstanding lesson planning for Key Stage Three Pupils, check this great resource out.
    1.2.Lessons: Link Activities
Do you have a link to a website you'd like students to use in a lesson? You've come to the right place!
Step 1: After you've created the lesson, add an Activity and select Add Resource.
Step 2: Select the Link button.
Step 3: Copy/paste the URL into the top portion.
Step 4: Title the link (what you'd like your students to see) in the bottom portion.
    Step 5: Click Save.

Step 6: Add a title and instructions.
Step 7: Add an image (optional). For best results, use an image with a ratio equivalent to 300 length x 200 width. *If this ratio is not used, the image will be seen in full by the student but a blurred background of the uploaded image will be added to fill the blank space. See below 👇

    Step 8: Click Save.
💡 Tip from the Otus Team: If you need to edit the link you attached to the activity (such as a video or file), you can! See instructions below.
When the student accesses this activity, there will be a button that says Open Link. The link should open up in a new window.
    Edit the Activity Link

Step 1: Select the ellipsis in the bottom-right corner of the activity tile and select Edit.
Step 2: Make any edits to the link or replace the link altogether.
    Step 3: Select Save.
Note: If the link activity you are editing is only used in one lesson, the lesson activity and the associated resource on your Bookshelf will be updated. If this link activity is in a lesson that was cloned, we will create a new bookshelf resource instead of editing the original resource.
💡 Tip from the Otus Team: You may see a 6th activity option that says "Add External Tool". For more information, click here. Note that this 6th option does not play any role in adding a link as described in this article.
