I didn’t want to pass the weight limit, so I had with me 3 snow jackets, a pair of gloves, 2 belts, tablet, phone, 2 scarfs, and a lot of cookies. I looked ridiculous, but they didn’t said anything. I didn’t pass the weight limit :D The problem was inside the airplane. Imagine entering an airplane in early September (30ºC outside) with 3 jackets, gloves and scarfs. You know the almost non existent legroom on your seat? Put 3 jackets, a pair of gloves and scarfs on top. Comfortable enough? I know I wasn’t. I was coming back from Bremen from Qatar Airlines with a stop at Doha. My Hand luggage was above 8 Kgs, and my main luggage was already 200 grams over the maximum limit. So, I cannot take few stuffs from hand luggage and put in Main Luggage. I had 2 pair of clothes, a jacket and few other stuff in my hand baggage. Why 2 pair of clothes? Put on your heaviest stuff, and have a empty bag in your carry-on, go through and as soon as you are on the plane, take off all those layers and put them in your empty bag and pop it under the seat in front of you. You don’t need to put them on at the end - no- one counts the number of bags you get off with. Sponsored by Dreame Read the novel in Dreame: My Boss Is the Father of My Babies. One time I had wore a pair of pants and jeans at the same time when flying back home because I somehow could not repack my backpack the same and the pants just weren't fitting right. And I hadn't packed anything extra. Needless to say, I totally regretted that I had to do that as it was uncomfortable because I wear my clothes tight as it is already. So you can only imagine how it was to put on a pair of tight jeans over tighter pants. And this was in early September (still hot). I have flown more than almost anyone, in almost every part of the world. If you show up at the airport, wearing normal clothes underneath, and a bathrobe over it, then you'll need to take it off like any other jacket or coat to pass through security. After that, I doubt if anyone will care or even notice. Except your mother. I'm a parent of two very small children, 2 and 4.5 as of this writing, as well as a teenager aged 14. I'm not sure how to handle going thru airport security now. Crazy story follows (with my picture). Seems like the body scan machine (hands over your head) is very sensitive now. Anyone know if it has changed? Does this happen often now? Advice? I used to travel for years every single week with no problems (altho I don't recall going thru that machine often then). If it’s a hot day in Paris, security might wonder why you are wearing all those layers. However it’s perfectly ok. Some people do it to reduce the weight in their luggage. They can always take off those extra layers later. In general, in the outward airport, you’ll go through bag & coat check, through the scanner and possibly a manual check if you’re wearing a metal belt, for example. However they are not phased by what you wear. They have seen far worse before. If you are travelling within the same country (or EEC if flying from Paris), there will be no hassle when you arrive. If you can reduce what you bring, you’ll have a much nicer trip. My luggage with my things is around 6kg (~13lbs). The only reason it’s so heavy is because I bring toiletries, since I tend to be allergic to the hotel-provided. Here’s what I usually bring: -bag: don’t use a heavy wheeled bag. If you’re serious about traveling light, your bag will weigh between 1200–1500 grams (~2–3.5 lbs). Backpack style makes it easier to run to your next gate or train stop. -clothes: in addition to what you’re wearing, you will bring 1–2 extra shirts, 1 pair of pants, 1 Can you wear two coats, and many layers, through airport security to reduce the weight of your check-in luggage? 8,405 Views Can I wear multiple layers of clothes through an airport check? 24,436 Views When flying, am I allowed to wear lots of clothes to avoid paying for additional luggage? 2,485 Views When checking at the airport, you are required to remove the sweater.
