BUXORO-2020 Sports Sport is probably as old as the humanity itself. All over the world people of different ages are very fond of sports and games. Firstly, sport helps people to become strong and to develop physically. Secondly, it makes them more organized and better disciplined in their daily activities. Also sport keeps your mind healthy. Sport helps people to keep in good health. We all need to exercise. Regular exercises give you more energy. Exercises make you feel and look better. The best exercises are: walking, jogging or swimming. Among the sports popular in our country are football, basketball, swimming, volley-ball, ice hockey, tennis, gymnastics, figure skating. A person can choose sports and games for any season, for any taste. As for me, I like sport. I like tennis, swimming, basketball, football, valley-ball. But my favorite sport is football. Of course, I buy the sports magazines and newspapers, for example: "Sport Express", or "World soccer". I like football in our country, because I live in Russia, but Spanish Premier League I like more. However, I think our football is not less strict and beautiful. By the way football is a team kind of sport. It is a sport played between two teams of eleven players with a spherical ball. The object of the game is to score by driving the ball into the opposing goal. In general play, the goalkeepers are the only players allowed to touch the ball with their hands or arms, while the field players typically use their feet to kick the ball into position, occasionally using their torso or head to intercept a ball in midair. The team that scores the most goals by the end of the match wins. If the score is tied at the end of the game, either a draw is declared or the game goes into extra time or a penalty shootout, depending on the format of the competition. I like this game because it is beautiful, interesting and really fast. Perhaps that's why football is so popular nowadays. Talking about whether I would watch some sport competitions on TV or participate in it I would say that watching them on TV is fine but personally I would of course try to participate in some sport activities since it's much funnier than just watching it. Also it will help me to keep my body in a good shape and to keep me fit and energized. As a teenager, I hated Physical Education lessons. I was not very good at sports, and I hated team sports because I always felt like I was disappointing the rest of the team. I was always making up excuses to get out of lessons. During these years, I sometimes felt disconnected from my body, like only my brain was ‘me’ and my body was just a vehicle for carrying my brain around. When I started university, I decided to try kung fu. To my surprise, I loved it! It was a friendly and casual club, and in my first year most of us were beginners. I used to go two or three times a week to train. Because it is not a team sport, I didn’t feel guilty about not being very good. And because it is a combat sport, you train in pairs, which means that you get to meet people and talk to them. I also appreciated that the focus of the classes was on getting better at kung fu, rather than exercising to change my body. I think that advertising puts us under an unhealthy pressure to change our appearance. When I was doing kung fu, my body did change – I got stronger and quicker – but the changes were a side effect of the sport, instead of the goal. Unfortunately, in the last year of university I was too busy to do kung fu most of the time. When I moved to Italy this year I decided I wanted to start doing a combat sport again. I found a great local club that does mixed martial arts and I love it. The club is more serious than the one at my university and we do lots of sparring (practice fights). I think that sparring is like chess, but much faster and much more fun! If your sparring partner tries to punch you, you have to decide in an instant how to react. You could dodge, block or even catch their arm and then throw them to the mat. When I was a teenager, I would say I just wasn’t a sporty person and that I just didn’t like sport and never would. Now I think that everyone should try as many sports as possible because I believe there is something out there for everyone! I feel connected to my body and I am happier and have more energy when I have been doing sport. I think a lot of people don’t enjoy basketball or football at school but maybe they would enjoy yoga, rock climbing or volleyball. Winter and Christmas are now fully on their way. It is getting colder, darker and wetter outside, so I decided that to try and keep fit whilst I am living here in Germany I would join a gym. Where I live there is a gym called "Sport Spaß" which means Sport Fun! It costs 9 euros per month for a membership and with the membership you can take part in as many classes as you want to. One of my friends also joined up and so we started going together once a week. Once we had been a few times we decided to try a few more classes and we now go about four times per week. We go to a "kick fit" class which uses a lot of air punching and kicking to get us moving, a "bums, legs and tums" class which is a lot of muscular work to help tone up your muscles, a "step" class in which we all take a plastic step and jump and step on and off the step and also an "aerobic" class where we do perform dance-like exercise to keep us fit. Not only are these classes good for my fitness level, but I have found that often they give me a reason to get outside of the house. Even when it is cold and dark and all I want to do is curl up in bed, I head out for some sporty fun and manage to have a really good time. Recently I have been feeling a little homesick because of living away from home and so my friend and I head to the gym together to have a chat and a laugh. I always leave the classes feeling happy, worked and motivated which I think is a great feeling. I have also found that after each class I feel I want to do more. Exercise is addictive and since starting the gym it has improved my life in a lot of different ways, many which I was not expecting. So, if you're ever feeling a little unhealthy, lazy, bored or a bit sad, I would definitely recommend trying a fitness class!GII Score: 93 23 Table Tennis Medium sport in: China, Nigeria Minor sport in: Germany, Japan, S.Korea, Netherlands, Pakistan, Sweden, Kazakhstan Fringe sport in: UK, France, Russia, Brazil, India, Spain, Turkey, Indonesia, Argentina, Thailand, Colombia, Philippines High interest:January to May A popular sport in China in particular, but maintains interest in Asia generally and in parts of Europe.
