- Literary layer has a bookish character
- The colloquial layer has a spoken character
- The neutral layer is deprived of any coloring which is of universal character and can be used in all styles of language.

Neologisms are new words usually appearing as names of new phenomena and thus enriching the vocabulary. - For ex: baby-moon, man-mode moon , artificial satellite
Terms are words denoting notions special fields of knowledge and easily accepted. - For.ex:microlinguistics, phoneme,vocalism,amplitude,charge …
Poitec words are used mainly in poetry. They stand between terms and archaic words. - For.ex: steed(horse), woe(sorrow), to behold(to see)
archaic words which no longer recognizable in MODERN English, were used in Old English have charged in their appearance so much that have become unrecognizable - For.ex: Troth(faith), a losel(a worthless)
a)Neutral words are the main source of synonymy and polysemy. Most neutral English words are of monosemantic character.
