ASSIGNMENT AND TASK 

1.  Choose  any  economic  problem  from  the  list  on  page  5  and  provide 

motivation for research work. In this part, you should justify the actuality 

of  the  topic  and  show  the  benefits  of  the  results  in  policy  making 

process.    (1-2 pages) 

2.  In the second part of study provide analyses of theoretical determinants 

of  the  problem. This stage should provide literature review of previous 

studies  and  select proper estimation methodology for the subsequent 

analysis. (2-3 pages)  

3.  Select  appropriate  dataset  to  test  your  hypothesis  and  perform  the 

following tasks: 

a) Provide data description for your sample. 

b) Estimate your regression model and justify your determinants  

c)  Explain your empirical results, particularly the effect of control variables 

on the chosen dependent variable. 

d) Do  your  results  support  outcomes  of  previous  studies  which  you 

analysed? Why or why not? 

4.  Briefly  explain  whether  the  assumptions  underlying  the method of least 

squares are satisfied for your regression model. 

 

You  can  use  any  credible  datasets  available  on  the  web  such  as  the  Jobs, 

Skills, and Migration Survey, any wave of the Life in Transition Surveys (LITS), 

the  Demographic  and  Health  Surveys  (DHS),  the  Living  Standards 

Measurement  Surveys  (LSMS),  etc.  Please  note  that  you  should  NOT  use 

exemplary  textbook  materials  such  as  WAGE2.dta  used  during  tutorial  and 

workshop sessions.
