Good to know, I’m not the only one… there are several words that I’ve tried learning again and again but … ‘nessecary’ is one of those… Umid, 36 Think of the memory test that you did at the very beginning. Were ‘necessary’ and ‘thorough’ among the words that you remembered? How did you remember the spelling of the two words? Did you use a particular strategy? One of the ways to help you remember spelling of some words can be acrostics. An acrostic is a sentence in which the first letter of every word represents the first letter in another word. Sentences can also be used to represent people, objects, and other items. Here are some examples: Tell Her Our Rare Oak Unbelievably Grows Hair - THOROUGH Not Every Cat Eats Sardines (Some Are Really Yummy) – NECESSARY Specific Measurable Achievable Realistic Time-bound – SMART (goals) You can also use acrostics to remember bigger chunks of information e.g. list of names or words. ‘My Very Educated Mother Just made Sandwiches for Us of Nutritious Peanut Butter’ can be use to learn the planets of the solar system (Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto) (Adapted from http://www.learnplus.com/guides/learning-sys-memo.html ) Download 90.63 Kb.
