The “hit” in the name was a play on words about the number of clicks on a website. He had no idea that he would later tell the police about lots of people who wanted assassin services. In December 2021, a woman was found guilty, after she asked Innes, via his website, to kill her husband. Innes also received a message from a woman named Helen. She was in Canada and wanted three family members in the UK murdered. He didn’t respond. But she sent a second email, which included names, addresses and other information. Innes knew he had to do something. So, he responded, and pretended he could do what she wanted. Within hours, Innes had her real name, location, and phone number. “I knew that three people’s lives were in great danger,” he says. Innes gave the information to the police, and soon found out from detectives that ‘Helen’ was wanted by the police in the UK. Innes realized his $9.20 website had just saved the lives of three people. Innes never planned to be a detective, or a criminal catcher. He didn’t have the training. He was just a man with a wacky website name who happened to stop a crime. He kept the website running. He filled it with jokes and clues to show it wasn’t real. “Your point and click solution,” the website says when you search for it on Google. The warning message on the front page reads: “Everyone should know by now that the Dark & Deep webs [sic] are not safe places. There are lots of dangerous sites, full of viruses and fraud. Other people might get your information, including law enforcement!” 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 But, the email requests for assassin services kept on coming. Innes does not make any money from the site, but people give him money to help with the running costs. He also plans to set up an internet safety program to help teach people about the dangers of the internet. Does he ever worry about keeping the website? “As long as these emails keep coming in, I will continue to act,” he says.
