5. Housing Profile 

Manatee County 

As presented in Table 5.1, and Chart 5.1, below, there are 138,128 housing units 

located within Manatee County. Of these units, 60.05 percent are owner-occupied, 

21.37 percent are renter-occupied, and 5.84 percent are non-seasonal vacant units. 

Of the occupied units, 73.76 percent are owner-occupied and 26.24 percent are 

renter-occupied. The median home value for the owner-occupied houses in the 

County was $96,000 and the median contract rent was $539

.

The City of Bradenton 

As shown in Table 5.2 and Chart 5.2, to 

the right, 53.35 percent of housing units 

in the City of Bradenton were owner-

occupied, 32.77 percent were renter-

occupied, and 7.55 percent were non-

seasonal vacant units. The median 

home value for owner-occupied housing 

units in the City was $90,300 and the 

median contract rent was $562

. 

 

 



 

Manatee County 

Table 5.3, to the right, shows that of all housing 

units, 45.43 percent were categorized as single-

family detached, 6.80 percent as single-family 

attached, 9.11 percent contained 2 to 4 units, 17.76 

percent as multifamily, and 20.89 percent as mobile 

home or other.  

 

Maps 5.1 and 5.2 indicate the distribution of single-family and multifamily housing 



units across the County.

Manatee County 

Table 5.5, below, provides details on the age of the housing units according to the 

2000 census. Almost 5.5 percent were built prior to 1950, 8.84 percent were built 

between 1950 and 1959, 13.46 percent were built between 1960 and 1969, 25.69 

percent were built between 1970 and 1979, and 46.61 percent were built after 1979.  

Map 5.3 provides a geographic representation of the distribution of the oldest 

housing stock in the County.

Table 5.6 and Chart 5.4, on the following page, show that 23.41 percent of housing 

units in Bradenton were built prior to 1960 and 15.48 percent of housing units were

When considering tenure by the race of the householder, the 2000 data shown in 

Table 5.7, below, indicate that 77.59 percent of White households own their home, 

while 22.41 percent rent. This compares to 45.91 percent of African-American 

households who own their home and 54.09 percent who rent and 41.36 percent of 

Hispanic households who own and 58.64 percent who rent.

across the County and the City of Bradenton. In Bradenton, the median housing 

value was $90,300 and for Manatee it was $96,000.
