Masha and the Bear (Russian folktale)

Masha and the Bear
(Russian folktale)

Once upon a time there were grandfather and grandmother. They had a granddaughter Mashenka.

The girlfriends gathered once in the forest for mushrooms and berries. They came to call with Masha and Mashenka.
- Grandpa, grandmother, - says Masha, - let me go to the forest with my friends!
Grandfather and grandmother answer:
- Go, just look at the girlfriends do not lag behind, or you'll get lost.
The girls came to the forest and began to gather mushrooms and berries. Here Mashenka - a tree behind a tree, a bush for a bush - and has left far-far from girl-friends.
She began to fuck around, began to call them, and her friends did not hear, did not respond.
I walked, Masha went around the woods - she was completely lost.
She came to the very backwoods, into the thicket. He sees - there is a hut. Masha knocked on the door - they did not answer. She pushed the door open and opened.
Masha entered the hut and sat down by the window on the bench.
She sat down and thought:
"Who lives here? Why can not you see anyone? .. "
And in that little house there lived a tremendous bear. Only then he was not at home: he walked through the woods.
The bear returned in the evening, saw Mashenka, rejoiced.
"Yeah," he says, "I will not let you go now!" You will live with me. You'll heat the stove, you'll have to cook the porridge, I'll have to feed the porridge.
Masha put it out, burned, but there's nothing to be done. She began to live with a bear in the hut.
The bear for the whole day will go into the forest, and Masha will punish him without leaving the hut without him.
"And if you leave," he says, "I'll catch it anyway, and then I'll eat it!"
Masha began to think about how to get away from a bear. All around the forest, in which direction to go - does not know, there is nobody to ask ...
She thought, thought and came up with.
Once a bear comes from the forest, and Masha tells him:

"Bear, bear, let me go for a day to the village: I'll take my grandmother and grandfather away with presents."

No," says the bear, "you will get lost in the forest." Give me presents, I'll take them myself.
And Masha needs it!
She baked pies, took out a large, large box and said to the bear:
- Here, look: I'll put pies in this box, and you take them to grandfather and grandmother. Yes, remember: do not open the box on the way, do not take out the patties. I'll climb the oak tree, I'll follow you!
"All right," the bear replies, "let's get a box!"
- Go out on the porch, see if it's raining!
Only the bear went out on the porch, Mashenka immediately climbed into the box, and put her dish and pies on her head.
The bear returned, he saw that the box was ready. He took him on his back and went to the village.
There is a bear between the trees, the bear wanders between the birches, goes down into the gully, climbs to the hills. He walked, was tired, and said:
- I'll sit on the stump,
Take off the patty!
And Mashenka from the box:
- See see!
Do not sit on a stump,
Do not eat pie!
Bring it to grandma,
Bring it to grandfather!
"What an eye-catcher," says the bear, "sees everything!"
He picked up the box and went on. She walked, walked, walked, stopped, sat down and said:
- I'll sit on the stump,
Take off the patty!
And Mashenka from the box again:
- See see!
Do not sit on a stump,
Do not eat pie!
Bring it to grandma,
Bring it to grandfather!
The bear was surprised:

"That's so cunning!" He sits high, looks far!

I got up and went quickly.
I came to the village, I found a house where my grandfather and grandmother lived, and let's go knocking at the gate with all my might:
- Knock-Knock! Unlock, open! I brought you presents from Masha.
And the dogs smelled the bear and rushed at him. From all the yards they run and bark.
The bear was frightened, put the box at the gate and started into the woods without looking back.
Grandfather and grandmother came to the gate. See - the box is standing.
"What's in the box?" Says the grandmother.
And the grandfather lifted the lid, looked - and did not believe his eyes: in the box Masha was sitting, alive and healthy.
Grandfather and grandmother were delighted. They began to embrace Mashenka, to kiss, to call a clever woman.
