METHOD OF MICROANALYSIS

Observation and study of microstructures of heat-treated carbon steels at 100 to 500 times magnification.
-
Each microstructure is drawn in a circle with a diameter of 50 mm or a square of size 60X60 mm.
-
The name of the steel, its chemical composition, processing mode, the name of the structure and its magnification are written below each microstructure image.
-
In each microstructure picture, phase types and structural composition are indicated by arrows, and their names are written next to the arrow.
ASSIGNMENT
-
Study of the microstructure of annealed, quenched and tempered carbon steels.
-
Draw and diagram the studied microstructure scheme
to write explaining how to get them.
-
Making a report on the work.
Laboratory procedure:
-
The microslide of steel is observed under a microscope and its structures are determined;
-
Depending on the structure, the amount of carbon in the steel is determined;
-
The observed microstructure is drawn.
Task : Explain the structural changes that occur in steel with x % (the value of x is taken according to the option) carbon content when heated to the liquidus temperature. Give information about the structures observed in this steel and their mechanical properties.

Class of steel, mechanical properties ( NV , s v , d , a n ) and areas of use are indicated (using table 8.1);

General conclusions.
