4.5.3 Heat Transfer
For the insulation calculations, the saved electricity consumption was assumed to be equal to
the difference in heat leakage with and without insulation. This implies that the efficiency of
the electrical heaters in the furnaces was assumed to be 100%. All heat leaks from the
furnaces heat the indoor air, but since the investigated areas are located on the roof of the
furnaces this heat will increase the temperature of the air above the furnaces. It was therefore
not considered to be a loss of useful indoor heating as this heat would only have increased the
temperature at the ceiling.
