There are many different heat treatment processes, some making the steel harder and some
making it softer and easier to work with. Another way to categorize the processes is to divide
them into thermal processes and thermo-chemical processes. In thermal processes, the
properties of the steel are altered solely by undergoing a certain temperature course. In
thermo-chemical processes, chemical reactions occur during the temperature course. [1] The
processes that will be included in this thesis are categorized in figure 2 and will be explained
in the sections below.
